Do you always take a camera out when you go for a walk? Over the past few years I’ve taken more walks and trips without the camera. It’s been a way to take the pressure off myself to “produce” something and helped me focus more on the experience of being there. But I’ve also started to miss taking photos with a proper camera (well, a non-phone camera). I like having a zoom! And a better quality image to look at! Also, if I am conscious about using the camera, rather than just walking around with it in my hand taking photos the entire time, it can help me slow down and notice things in a different way - especially details. With that in mind, I took the camera on my walk into town the other day. Although the trip was otherwise a bit of a failure (I went to pick up a prescription but it hadn’t been sent through yet, I went to get some more yarn for crocheting a beanie and bought the wrong one), I enjoyed making it into a slow, meditative adventure. I also got to pat two cats on the way home, both of whom saw me coming from ages away and ran up to me to say hello! I loved watching the changing light as the sun started to set. It’s starting to stay lighter a little later in the afternoons, now, which is a relief. It had rained that morning, so there were puddles on the ground and in the hollows of fallen tree trunks, reflecting the colours of the sky. It was very beautiful. That's it, that's the blog post!

I pretty much take a camera wherever I go. Easier now with the quality of cameras incorporated into mobile phones. Someone last week was surprised when I brought out an actual camera! You never know what you are going to come across.

I think I stopped taking the camera because I have hundreds of photos still waiting to be sorted and edited - it was just getting to be too much work. And there was usually the phone camera if I really wanted a memory, or a throwaway snap to share with friends. But there's something nice about having a real camera for capturing details. (It's not so great for selfies - so many memories of taking a pic and not quite knowing if everyone's going to be in it!)
